Kids learn the rewards of doing good deeds early in life
In Hebrew, the word ''mitzvah'' can mean ''good deeds.'' So, when Allentown resident Maurice Knafo died in November, his three grandchildren turned their mourning into a project called the Maurice Mitzvah Fund to brighten the lives of others. Two weeks ago, they delivered more than 50 gift baskets to elderly residents of two nursing homes in his memory.
In Nazareth, a 9-year-old was so saddened to learn the fate of animals no one wants, she decided to collect donations and give her time to help cats and dogs at a Northampton County animal shelter.
In Salisbury Township, a high school honor student devotes regular hours each week to a program that helps middle school students steer clear of addictions.
